Does a Toothbrush Clean as Well as Dental Tools?

Posted on 7/23/2019 by Platte Valley Dental Care
Does a Toothbrush Clean as Well as Dental Tools? We always stress the importance of regularly brushing and flossing your teeth. We recommend brushing in the morning and in the evening after your meals. We also recommend flossing in between meals to rid yourself of the debris that sticks between your teeth and that many times a toothbrush misses.

We counsel you to use a soft toothbrush and not to apply too much pressure so you don't damage the enamel. Toothbrushes have come a long way and electric toothbrushes have too. Their heads are designed to reach areas that couldn't previously be touched by the old style of toothbrush. But still and all, it isn't enough. Your toothbrush and floss cannot compare to the tools in our toolbox.

What Can You Do That I Can't?
When we perform an exam, we can spot areas that your toothbrush has missed. Plaque and tartar build up in these areas and once the plaque hardens into tartar, no over the counter toothbrush you can buy will be able to remove it. Our toothpaste has a gritty material in it that can help to remove the tartar and plaque that your toothbrush is unable to remove. We are trained to ensure that when we use this toothpaste we don't damage the enamel on your teeth, which is the protective covering you need.

But like your toothbrush, our toothbrush can only do so much as well. It cannot get in between your teeth any better than your toothbrush can. That is why we have other tools. We have a scraper that we use to carefully remove the plaque and tartar let behind by your toothbrush. This scraper can get in between your teeth, which is where a lot of tooth decay begins. This is why we recommend that you come for a cleaning twice a year. Contact us to make an appointment for yours.
