Reasons You Might Need A Pediatric Dentist

Posted on 10/11/2021 by Platte Valley Dental Care
Reasons You Might Need A Pediatric DentistIn our offices, we recommend a consultation with our pediatric dentists at approximately six months of age, after the first tooth emerges, and definitely before the first year. Although it sounds precocious, dental deterioration in children is an important problem to attend to. Cavities at an early age can be very painful if we do not take care of them immediately. We invite you to continue reading and learn more about your children's first visits with our dentists.

What Potential Dental Problems Can Babies Experience?

The risk of dental deterioration appears when the first tooth emerges, so during your first visit, our pediatric dentist will help the family to implement preventive strategies and tools to take care of the teeth of the little ones in the house, as well as give them the instructions for basic dental care.

Children who drink breast milk, juice, or soft drinks from bottles are at risk for cavities at an early age. For this reason, our dentists recommend avoiding the use of this type of bottle and reducing contact with excessively sweet foods and drinks as much as possible. Similarly, we do not recommend the transmission of oral bacteria through the sharing of spoons or pacifiers.

Our dentists will also emphasize the importance of fluoridation in children. Too much fluoride during the first four years of life can cause fluorosis, and too little fluoride can contribute to tooth decay in childhood, so there must be a balance for healthy teeth.

What Happens During The First Visit?

Our pediatric dentists will be in charge of giving your children a fun and stimulating consultation, since they are specially trained to deal with infants. During your visit, our professionals will advise the family to implement good dental care early, ask questions about the child's habits, and examine their teeth. The child will not lose sight of their parents at any time, reinforcing their comfort. We usually do a general cleaning and apply a little fluoride. Your children's teeth will be perfectly cared for with us. To learn more, please schedule an appointment with us today!
