Digital X-rays

Your dental exams are an integral component of maintaining a healthy mouth and a beautiful smile. Routine exams allow us to detect the presence of issues in their earliest stages before symptoms even appear. Other dental exams can help us to get to the root of specific symptoms that you are experiencing. Part of your dental exam is a visual inspection of your teeth and gums. While we can see a lot with the naked eye, there is also a lot we cannot see. Platte Valley Dental Care can see these invisible parts of your mouth with digital x-rays.

Why Do I Need X-Rays?

X-rays are an integral component of your dental exams. While there are many structures in your mouth that we can see, there are also many that are hidden from view. X-rays help us to spot issues that might otherwise go undetected until more serious complications arise. Thanks to x-rays, we can spot issues such as:
•  Decay and cavities between your teeth.
•  Root damage.
•  Cysts and abscesses in your jaw.
•  Bone loss.
•  Tumors in your jawbone.
•  Impacted teeth. These are teeth that cannot erupt properly through the gums. It is a common issue with the wisdom teeth, although any tooth can become impacted.

What are Digital X-Rays?

Traditionally, x-rays have been taken using radiation. While effective, these types of x-rays have a few significant drawbacks. One major drawback is that images taken with radiation require development in a dark room, which can take time away from your appointment. Additionally, the use of radiation causes concern for many patients.

Digital x-rays are a modern alternative to traditional x-rays. Instead of radiation, digital x-rays use electronics to capture images. We place an electronic sensor in your mouth. This sensor is attached to a computer. The sensor is placed specifically to capture different types of images. We only need to click a button on the computer and your image is taken. The image is then displayed almost immediately on the computer screen with no need for development.

Benefits of Digital X-Rays

Digital x-rays provide many significant benefits. These benefits include:
•  Fast and easy. Taking your images is quick, easy, and completely painless.
•  Images are displayed almost immediately. We do not need to take time out of your appointment to develop your images in a separate darkroom. We never need to leave the exam room.
•  More accurate diagnoses. Specialized software allows us to zoom in and enhance images, allowing us to take note of the smallest detail within your mouth. This allows for much more complete diagnoses and much more effective treatment plans.
•  Spending your entire appointment with you. Because we do not need to take time out of your appointment to develop the images, we can spend all of your appointment with you. We can take the time necessary to go over your diagnosis and fully explain your treatment options. We can also answer any questions that you might have, allowing you to feel more confident about any treatments you need.
•  Reduced exposure to radiation. In most cases, radiation exposure is reduced up to 95%.

Thanks to digital x-ray technology, we can see the smallest details of your mouth, allowing for more accurate diagnoses and much more effective treatment plans. For more information about digital x-rays, call Platte Valley Dental Care at (816)858-2027 today.
