CEREC Crown
Platte City, MO

Teeth can stand up to a significant amount of wear and tear, allowing you to perform some different essential functions. Despite their strength, however, the teeth still decay and absorb physical damage such as chips, cracks, and normal wear and tear.
These forms of physical damage can compromise their strength and their health. Crowns are a common treatment used to restore damaged teeth. Typically, they require two separate appointments to place. Platte Valley Dental Care can avoid the wait, and the need for a second appointment, with same day crowns.
What is a Crown?
A crown is a common dental treatment used in restorative dentistry to restore teeth affected by physical damage or decay. It resembles a cap in appearance and is made to mimic the size and shape of the tooth it is treating. The crown encases the entire visible surface of the affected tooth, protecting it from further harm.
The crown also works to seal out bacteria, prevent infections, and provide the tooth with the strength it needs to function normally. Crowns can be made from many different materials, including metal, porcelain fused to metal, and ceramic.
How is a Crown Typically Placed?
Typically, a crown requires two appointments. During the first appointment, the tooth is prepared. This process, done under a local anesthetic, requires the removal of a portion of the enamel from the affected tooth. This makes the tooth smaller so that your crown can fit properly into place. After the tooth is prepared, an impression of your mouth is taken.
The impression is sent to a dental lab, where it is used to design and fabricate the custom crown. It can take up to two weeks for the crown to be completed, so a temporary crown is placed. This temporary crown helps to protect your tooth while you wait. Once your crown is completed, the temporary crown is removed, and your final crown is checked for a comfortable fit and a natural bite. If no adjustments are necessary, the crown is bonded into place.
How Can I Get a Crown in One Day?
Today, we can provide you with custom ceramic crowns crowns in just one visit. This avoids the need for a second appointment as well as the need for a temporary crown. This is possible thanks to CEREC. CEREC uses CAD/CAM technology or computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing. After preparing your affected tooth, we take a digital impression of your mouth. This digital impression is displayed on a computer monitor. Using specialized software, we can custom create your crown.
Once the design phase is complete, the information is then sent to an in-house milling unit. A block of ceramic is placed inside of the milling unit, and your crown is cut out. We are then able to stain and finish your crown to blend in with the color of your natural tooth. If any adjustments are needed, they can be made on-site. When you leave the office, you leave with your final crown.
If you have suffered tooth damage, it is important to seek treatment right away. For more information about same day crowns, and to find out if this treatment is right for you, call Platte Valley Dental Care at (816)858-2027 today.
