Rare genetic disorders like hypodontia, anodontia, and oligodontia are the reason for missing teeth in children and adults. Due to the mutations in genetic coding, some or all of the permanent teeth fail to develop and grow out of the jawbone. As a result, patients have missing teeth and a very odd and unpleasant smile.

To fill the gaps formed by these missing teeth, dentists use a surgical procedure known as dental implants. Dental implants are the artificial roots for your new teeth that will be fixed to replace your missing teeth.

Dental implant surgery is also an alternative treatment method for replacing damaged or broken teeth. Because of accidents like a car crash, getting hit by a football, or slips and falls, we can sustain facial injuries that result in tooth loss. Negligence of health and oral hygiene, as well as severe tooth decay can also lead to premature tooth loss. As the lost permanent teeth cannot grow back, dentists suggest implant supported dentures to replace them.

Apart from giving a person an unusual smile, missing and lost teeth create problems while speaking and eating. People with lost or missing teeth are unable to bite and chew their food and have unclear speech. We offer multiple teeth replacements with implants for those who are looking to replace more than one tooth or want a brand new smile.

Dental Implant Materials

Dental implants are metallic screws or fixtures that can be made from stainless steel, or metal alloys like cobalt, chromium, titanium, silver, or gold. The replacement teeth that are fixed on top of the dental implants are made to look and feel like your original teeth.

To resemble the color, shape, and size of your teeth, removable teeth are made from ceramic, porcelain, composite resin, acrylic, or metals like gold and silver.

Who is A Candidate for Implants?

People who have lost their permanent teeth or their permanent teeth failed to develop are the ideal candidates for dental implants. Dental implant surgery is for all those who are against the idea of getting dentures, dental bridges, or crowns to replace their lost or missing teeth.

Only those who can undergo a dental implant surgery who are in otherwise good health, have a healthy jawbone, and do not show any signs of periodontal diseases like gingivitis are good candidates.

Smokers and children under the age of 16 cannot undergo dental implant surgery. If you have any questions give us a call or read our Dental Implants FAQ .

Dental Implants Placement

To place a dental implant in your jawbone, your dentist will first take scans to assess the health and structure of your jawbone. In case your jawbone shows signs of an injury or a fracture, your dentist will first recommend bone grafting surgery to repair your jawbone. In a bone grafting surgery, a small piece of bone is extracted from another part of your body, such as the hips, legs, or chest, to graft it in the fractured jawbone. A bone grafting surgery before the placement of dental implants is very common among those who have suffered severe facial traumas.

However, if the scans show that your jawbone is in good health and condition, your dentist will proceed to place the dental implants inside your jawbone. First, your dentist will thoroughly clean the area to remove bacteria and food debris. A small hole will be made inside your gums and all the way down to your jawbone to create space for the dental implant. The metal screw that will act as the artificial root for your replacement tooth will be inserted into the hole, and part of it will protrude out of the gums.

After the dental implant surgery, you will be sent back home. Dental implants need at least 3 months to fuse completely with the jawbone and form a strong foundation for your new teeth. This process is known as osseointegration. Without osseointegration, your replacement teeth will not have strong roots to hold them in place. Once the dental implant has osseointegrated into the jawbone, your dentist will attach a small metal extension (abutment) to the implant and fix your new tooth on it.

The replacement tooth, along with the dental implant, looks and functions just like a real tooth. Depending on the number of your missing teeth and their position, you may require either a single tooth implant or multiple teeth implants, but the procedure remains the same.

Benefits of Implants

Some of the benefits of dental implants are as follows:

•  Unlike dentures, crowns, and dental bridges, dental implants do not slip out.
